Hello! I’m a 27 year old actress and moved away from New Jersey in order to pursue acting in LA. However, I just don’t love it. The community doesn’t feel strong, the culture is so different from the east coast, and I’m so far from my family. I’ve done a couple gigs and love my acting class, but find that I’ve been so unhappy since I’ve gotten here that I don’t have much motivation. Other factors: \-I am currently on workers comp from an injury, and am running out of money. I will have to find a new job soon, and finding jobs here is next to impossible. I feel like I’m broke, unhappy, and far from my family, and it’s just not worth it anymore. BUT of course I have doubts and “what ifs” and a million different voice in my head saying the same thing. Any advice would help!!!

I need some Help. | Want to learn a completely new Method Of Acting, (Prefer to learn Stella Adler) but I'm also noticing my Auditions are not nearly as strong as they should be. Hello! Little bit about me, I'm a senior film student. A couple years ago I began to learn how incredibly difficult acting can be, and after talking with actors and taking some classes myself to better understand your craft, realized how difficult working with directors can be. To any actors on here, I'd like to hear what you look for in your characters, and I guess more specifically, what you'd like to know about your characters FROM directors/writers. Hey guys ! I’m 21 and I’ve always been passionate about acting but it’s not something that I’ve pursued until now. I’ve been doing a lot of research in regard to different acting schools etc. I know that a lot of actors tend to get their breakthroughs later on in life while having prior acting experience. I know that acting has no age limits and you can always learn, however my concern is that there are people my age that have prior acting experience while I on other hand do not. My question is, am I still capable of becoming a successful actress regardless of the age that I’m starting to learn at ?

I never really got into acting because every time I tried it was in front of hundreds of people being put in the spotlight. I realized that in VA that all of that spotlight is taken off of me, my face and physical features. I just want to ask… to all the voice actors out there, is it fun? do you believe its worth it?

It will satirically follow the ideologies of the very extreme right and “red pilled” community. I’m looking for a white woman, conventionally attractive, and willing to wear tight clothing and show her print, yes I know it sounds crazy, but if you’re interested you will play the role of a “dumb” bimbo-like character, that agrees to everything the podcast host is will say.

Has anyone ever held themselves back from getting into acting because of a fear of publicity? Since I was a kid, I've always loved acting, and the art behind filmmaking has always interested me, but I have also always had OCD. Part of this gives me the worst intrusive thoughts. One being that I am a terrible person and if I were to ever be famous, the world would shred me apart, which is weird, since the only problematic thing I have ever really done is probably be mean to a friend once by accident in high school, which was probably around 4 years ago. I get scared because I'm not perfect, I have made mistakes and will make mistakes in the future. I am totally content with that fact as everyone is human! Everyone is able to change, atone or forgive; however, I swear actors are not seen as human. What if the public uses any small mistake to their advantage? When I see how many people make up things about actors, or even just the smallest thing, such as not smiling at a fan on the street, makes them problematic, it honestly puts me off. (Which is frustrating because there are plenty of celebrities high and low tier who genuinely are problematic and still have traction.) I am interested to know if anyone has ever struggled with this idea or thought at all and still continued to pursue their dream? (I'm new to this subreddit, and I have read through all the FAQ and Rules, and I am pretty sure this does not breach any of them!! I apologise if it has/please remove.)

hi! i’ve always wanted to do something in the film industry and ive been in a couple school productions. i’ve also taken acting/media production related classes in highschool. im a current college freshman at a cc and i’ve always planned to transfer. i planned on pursuing a media production major in texas, but after i didnt get in i decided i would just do a community college (it was too late to change my mind cause i was on the waitlist). im kinda debating on changing my major to film, but i feel that media production allows me to dip my toe into each pool. i’ve taken acting classes but i’m taking more and getting more into commercials. i currently live in the pnw so thats all there really is. however, ive been doing some research and im having a hard time figuring out where i should base myself in the near future. ik that im probably not going to live there forever, but while in college i want to utilize BEING in college. i simply just want to build experience and be able to do everything i’ve always loved doing. if i get a big role then so be it, but im mainly focused on gaining experience so i can really achieve what im working to accomplish. i wont have to worry about bills and ill still be able to live my life. money isnt the biggest issue because of scholarships and fasfa and i have family in all three places so im not alone. i also know all three places relatively well. the thing is i hear that atlanta is small so it’s kinda easier to get roles, but its also so small that it seems like its over saturated. i hear that chicago is mainly going back to it’s theater/comedy roots, with little camera acting and alot of the shows are ending. lastly, (the most obvious) la is extremely saturated but EVERYTHING casts there. so as a beginner actor trying to gain experience and every relevant opportunity she can get, la, atl, or chicago?

I’m a newer actor, and the package I purchased only includes five final photos, so I really want to make sure I’m choosing images that represent me well. Before the shoot, I had talked with my agent and we both agreed that we wanted the photos to demonstrate a range of characters/types. She gave me some feedback afterward about which photos stood out to her, but they all seem to communicate a fairly similar type to me, and one that reads considerably younger than my actual age. I also have to be honest I feel like I don’t look my best in some of the photos she selected, which makes me hesitant to use them as my primary headshots. Would it be reasonable to ask her what specifically stood out to her about these choices, without coming across as disrespecting her professional judgment? I don't want to second guess my agent, but I also don't want to spend this much and end up with photos that don't represent the range of roles I can play. Would love to hear how other actors would approach this.

This is just a showerthought... When watching anime and hearing japanese acting, like when a character screams before making a big attack or something... to me it sounds...fine? and organic even? but when i try to listen to english dub and i hear actors trying to make the same scream... i cant help but cringe. it sounds so weird and unnatural and feels like it just doesnt fit... I know for a fact it can not be boiled down to "japanese voice actors are better" because there is no way professional voice actors that spend their life honing the mastery are just suddenly worse in english industry for some reason. so I'm wondering, why it sounds so much worse to me? My first thought was...well, i dont speak japanese so it just sounds different to me and there is no context or something. But here is the thing... english isn't my first language either, my native is russian, so by this logic english also should sound fine and only russian should make me cringe. Like I grew up with all these brand names in english and never knew they mean something. And when I learned english I was like..."so you just ask for a shoe chocolate bar in a store?? wtf??". so...do japanese people feel similar when listening to voice acting in their native language? or does it sound fine to them? p.s. I'm not a voice actor, just thought this question fits here...sorry if its not the right place for this discussion

so I'm currently 14 and i want be an actor, and hopefully go to a really good drama sixth form or college (for a btech in acting/drama and maybe a levels in English or philosophy) but im not sure if i can make it, especially since the only acting experience i have right now is through school... im going to one workshop over summer, hopefully two, but my parents are saying i have to purely focus on my studies... im scared i won't have enough things on my cv to get into a good school, and im 5'2 and not conventionally attractive either... i was just wondering if someone who has been to a top drama college or sixth form could give advice and the types of things they had on theur cvs to get in? also advice for getting into top unis and the industry in general would be appreciated too!!

Hi everyone, I don’t have anyone to talk to about this, so any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated. I’m an American woman in my late 20s living in Tokyo, but lately I’ve really been wanting more acting opportunities, like in the U.S. or even other parts of the world. I live in Japan (going on 10 years) because life here is cheaper, safer, and it’s been a good chance to build my creative skills. Tokyo has some really cool stuff. I do acting and modeling here, and also have a normal day job. But lately things are stagnant… I am not sure if I’m ready to leave Tokyo yet, and part of me feels like it can give me a unique background as an actor if I eventually move back to LA. But jobs here in Japan are not so foreigner friendly, as you can imagine in a very homogenous country. I have been considering - Should I get an agent in the U.S., submit self-tapes from here, and fly out if I get a role? Should I keep working locally in Japan, keep building, then move back? Should I just move back now? I feel torn because I love day to day life in Japan, but I also love the abundance of auditions America has. An ideal world would be the safety and affordability of Japan with the industry of LA, but of course that is not a thing lol…I feel like I’m running out of time? Or not optimizing it well enough. I don’t know. Please let me know if you have any feedback for me, as I know it’s kind of a weird situation. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!

# I'm currently listening to the audiobook of Project Hail Mary on Audible while also watching the new season of Mushoku Tensei. I'm struck by how much the English voice actor for Rudeus's past life and inner voice, Ben Phillips, sounds like Ray Porter, the narrator of the Project Hail Mary audiobook. They really sound quite similar! Do they sound like each other?

I remember being younger and visiting a bunch of cons as a pre teen but I would notice that every once in a while a voice actor would kinda just be alone at a booth. I always worried that if I ever got invited to a con then that would be me. But for VA's that have gone through that, how was it? Were you relieved, bored? Did you just talk to the con agent next to you? Are you guys allowed to be on your phone?

Budget: $30-$60 (I'm open to discussing prices higher than this) Basically, I'm looking for a voice actress to perform some lines from a combat sports webtoon. So a lot of emotion and tone from calm, to excitement, to frustration, to cockiness, to desperation, etc. Since the scene is a fight, I would also like someone who can do sounds like grunts, sounds of pain, heavy breathing like catching their breath, etc. The character being portrayed is also the antagonist of the fight (the "bad guy" if you will) It would be preferable if you provide sample of previous voice work and what is the best method to contact you since I don't do DMs through Reddit. I will provide the pages of the webtoon and lines to be read.
